THE BEGINNING

It was a hot summer day. Rob's hair was way too long, dripping sweat into his eyes. He was filthy and smelly, generally looking a mess. He was in a neighborhood where shopping carts just seemed to appear. So he began to push one to pick up trash. No one would have known that just a few months prior he had owned a new car dealership. Upon quick glance one would think he had fallen. Hard…

“Hey, Rob! You look like one of us! You belong here!” Out of the mouth of a resident meth addict came the words of God. He spoke to Rob through her that day. It hit him like a ton of bricks. He belonged here…

A business partner and Rob purchased this property thinking they saw a cash flow opportunity. However, God had other things in mind for it. After all, His thoughts are higher. In a joking manner, they often referred to the area as “The Last Resort.” As if one could not afford to live here, he would probably end up in a mission or on the streets. Many of the folks in this neighborhood are in a state of desperation, but don’t know what they are desperate for. Rob had been praying for a long time to be used in some way, but didn’t know what that looked like until that aforementioned day. He started to offer hope the best he could, and people began to respond. He learned that if given the opportunity to hear truth, many people will receive it. He soon discovered that it was all much bigger than he ‒ way bigger. He was exactly where God wanted him, needing Jesus…

Rob went to Jay St. Clair, the outreach minister of College Heights Christian Church, a true friend and mentor. He told Jay what God had placed on his heart; the people of this neighborhood needed to hear the Good News. He told Jay that he would donate a community house to be used however God would lead. Jay told him the outreach ministry had been praying for an opportunity to adopt a neighborhood and at that moment, they realized their prayers had intersected. God had gone before them. They went to their knees and with tearful prayers the Lord changed the name from the Last Resort to His resort ‒ God’s Resort…

God’s Resort has gone from a little community house to a half‒block area. God’s Resort is now a non-profit organization serving the needs of the God’s Resort families and the surrounding neighborhood that is hungry for the truth. Hungry for relationships. Hungry for hope. Hungry for Jesus.

There have been hundreds of volunteers reaching out and helping. Not only are old buildings being restored, but more importantly, lives, families and relationships are being restored. The ground is fertile at God’s Resort, and we are blessed to be a blessing.

Please prayerfully consider how you might be a part of the God’s Resort Ministry.
